1. An electrode coupled to an anchoring unit comprising:
- an electrode; and
an anchoring unit coupled to said electrode, wherein said anchoring unit comprises;
a pre-deployment shape; and
a post deployment shape, wherein said post deployment shape is different than the pre-deployment shape, wherein said anchoring unit is configured to attach said electrode to human tissue by puncturing said tissue at a puncture site, foreshortening upon deployment in the tissue to pull the electrode deeper into said tissue, and, upon being pulled deeper into said tissue, sealing said puncture site.

Abstract
An implantable stimulation device for use in stimulation based treatments for diseases such as GERD or obesity is described. The device is provided with an anchoring unit which upon deployment assumes a shape optimized for the site of deployment. Sensing electrodes and stimulating electrodes in the device are also designed to assume a suitable shape upon deployment. A novel catheter is also provided for easy and expeditious deployment of the device.
