1. A display device comprising a plurality of display cells, wherein each of said display cells is(a) filled with an electrophoretic fluid comprising a first type of pigment particles of a first color and a second type of pigment particles of a second color, both of which are dispersed in a solvent or solvent mixture of a third color,(b) sandwiched between a first layer comprising only one common electrode and a second layer comprising a plurality of driving electrodes, among which at least one driving electrode is a non-transparent designated driving electrode and the remaining driving electrodes are transparent non-designated driving electrodes, wherein the two types of pigment particles are capable of being driven to the first layer, to the second layer, and to the at least one non-transparent designated driving electrode, and(c) operable for displaying at least four color states when the display cell is viewed through the second layer, wherein the pigment particles which gathered at the at least one non-transparent designated driving electrode are hidden and are not visible from the viewing side.
