1. A method for operating a base station in a wireless network, the method comprising:

  • determining, by the base station configured to provide wireless communications to a mobile device configured to operate in a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode, DRX awake periods during each of which the mobile device monitors consecutive downlink layer 1 control channel elements (CCE'"'"'s) within a same DRX awake period, wherein the DRX mode includes DRX sleep periods and DRX awake periods the downlink layer 1 CCE'"'"'s providing signaling of a dynamically allocated resource for the mobile device to communicate data; and

    transmitting, by the base station, signaling comprising a DRX control parameter that indicates a start time for a first DRX awake period of said DRX awake periods, wherein the start time defines an initial subframe of the first DRX awake period.
