1. A surgical access assembly, comprising:
- a sleeve including a sleeve body having a trailing end and a leading end, the trailing end of the sleeve body connected to a first end, the leading end of the sleeve body connected to a second end, the sleeve adapted for insertion within tissue to access an underlying tissue site, the sleeve defining a first passage therethrough, the first passage having a first diameter; and
a port having trailing and leading ends and defining at least one second passage extending therethrough, the port adapted for insertion within the first passage of the sleeve in a sealed relationship therewith, the trailing and leading ends of the port positioned between the first and second ends of the sleeve when the port is positioned within the first passage of the sleeve, the at least one second passage adapted for a sealed reception of a surgical object therethrough, the at least one second passage having at least one second diameter, the first diameter being greater than the at least one second diameter, the port being selectively removably positionable within the first passage of the sleeve between upper and lower surfaces of the tissue, the port adapted to exert a force that extends radially outward through the sleeve body and into the tissue between the upper and lower surfaces of the tissue, the trailing end of the port having a first lip extending radially outwardly therefrom and the leading end of the port having a second lip extending radially outwardly therefrom, the first lip positionable above the upper surface of the tissue and the second lip positionable below the lower surface of the tissue, the first and second lips defining a channel therebetween, at least a portion of the sleeve body being securable within the channel.

8. A surgical access assembly, comprising:

a sleeve having first and second ends and being adapted for insertion within tissue to access an underlying tissue site, the sleeve includes an inner-most surface that defines a first passage through the sleeve, the first passage having a first diameter; and a flexible port having trailing and leading ends and defining at least one second passage through the flexible port, the trailing end having a first lip and the leading end having a second lip, the first lip positionable above an upper surface of the tissue and the second lip positionable below a lower surface of the tissue such that the trailing and leading ends of the flexible port are positionable between the first and second ends of the sleeve, the flexible port being compressible and removably positionable within the first passage of the sleeve to provide a biasing force outwardly against the inner-most surface of the sleeve so as to maintain the flexible port within the tissue and the sleeve between the flexible port and the tissue, the at least one second passage adapted for a sealed reception of a surgical object therethrough, the at least one second passage having at least one second diameter; wherein both the sleeve and the flexible port are hourglass-shaped, the hourglass shape of the flexible port extending between proximal-most and distal-most ends of the flexible port, and wherein the first diameter is greater than the at least one second diameter. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10)

a sleeve including a sleeve body having a trailing end and a leading end, the trailing end of the sleeve body connected to a first end, the leading end of the sleeve body connected to a second end, the sleeve adapted for insertion within tissue to access an underlying tissue site, the sleeve defining a first passage therethrough, the first passage having a first diameter; and a port having a trailing end and a leading end, the port defining at least one second passage extending therethrough, the port adapted for insertion within the first passage of the sleeve in a sealed relationship therewith, the at least one second passage adapted for a sealed reception of a surgical object therethrough, the at least one second passage having at least one second diameter, the first diameter being greater than the at least one second diameter, the port positionable within the first passage of the sleeve and selectively removable from the first passage of the sleeve, the port having an outer surface adapted to contact an inner surface of the sleeve, the port positionable entirely between the first and second ends of the sleeve and between upper and lower surfaces of the tissue, the trailing end of the port having a first lip extending radially outwardly therefrom and the leading end of the port having a second lip extending radially outwardly therefrom, the first and second lips defining a channel therebetween, at least a portion of the sleeve being securable within the channel. - View Dependent Claims (12)
