1. A suture passer device for passing a suture through a tissue, the device comprising:
- a first jaw and a second jaw moveable from a closed configuration to a distal-facing open configuration, wherein the first jaw slides distally or proximally relative to the second jaw to form the open configuration;
a tissue penetrator housed entirely within the first jaw when not deployed, the tissue penetrator configured to extend and retract between the first and second jaws in an arcuate path, wherein the tissue penetrator is configured to hold or release a suture in order to pass the suture between the first jaw to the second jaw; and
a suture retainer configured to receive a suture from the tissue penetrator or couple a suture onto the tissue penetrator.

Abstract
A suture passer device may include a first jaw, a second jaw, and a tissue penetrator which may penetrate through tissue positioned between the first and second jaws to carry a suture. Further, the device may include an actuator which may manipulate at least one of the first or second jaws and the tissue penetrator Additionally, the first and second jaws may be substantially parallel to one another at any position to which the at least one jaw is manipulated. Additionally, the tissue penetrator may travel along an arcuate path from a first position, recessed within the first jaw, to a second position where the tissue penetrator extends through the tissue to be positioned in communication with the second jaw.

11. A continuous suture passer device for passing a suture back and forth through a tissue having jaws that open and close while remaining substantially-parallel, the device comprising:

a first jaw and a second jaw moveable from a closed configuration to a distal-facing open configuration, wherein the first jaw slides distally or proximally relative to the second jaw to form the open configuration in which the first jaw is parallel to the second jaw; an actuator including a jaw control to manipulate at least one jaw to open and close the jaws; a tissue penetrator housed entirely within the first jaw when not deployed, the tissue penetrator configured to extend and retract along an arcuate pathway between the first jaw and the second jaw; a suture retainer seat in the jaw opposite from the jaw housing the tissue penetrator and configured to receive the distal end of the tissue penetrator regardless of the spacing between the first and second jaws; and a second actuator configured to control extension and retraction of the tissue penetrator. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)

21. A continuous suture passer device for passing a suture back and forth through a tissue with jaws that open and close while remaining substantially parallel, the device comprising:

parallel-opening first and a second jaws that are moveable from a closed configuration to a distal-facing open configuration, wherein the first jaw slides distally or proximally relative to the second jaw to form the open configuration in which the first jaw is parallel to the second jaw; a tissue penetrator housed entirely within the first jaw when not deployed, the tissue penetrator configured to extend and retract between the first and second jaws in an arcuate path; and a moveable suture retainer seat in the second jaw configured to pivot relative to the second jaw so that an opening into the suture retainer seat matches the angle of approach of the tissue penetrator regardless of how spread apart the jaws are, so that the tissue penetrator may enter the opening.
