1. A method comprising:
- receiving a Short Message Service (SMS) emergency alert addressed for a Wi-Fi access point at said Wi-Fi access point via an internet interface configured to send and receive communications using Internet Protocol (IP);
authenticating said SMS emergency alert received via said internet interface at said Wi-Fi access point;
transmitting said SMS emergency alert from said Wi-Fi access point via a wireless communications mechanism configured to exchange communications with a first mobile device by;
determining a first application currently being used on said first mobile device,formatting said SMS emergency alert in a format such that said first application is capable of presenting said SMS emergency alert, andsending said SMS emergency alert as part of a first data stream comprising first data for said first application; and
subsequently transmitting said SMS emergency alert from said Wi-Fi access point via the wireless communications mechanism configured to exchange communications with a second mobile device by;
determining a second application currently being used on said second mobile device, wherein said second application is different than said first application,formatting said SMS emergency alert in a second format such that the second application is capable of presenting said SMS emergency alert, andsending said SMS emergency alert as part of a second data stream comprising second data for said second application.
