1. A steering head for use with a casing, the steering head comprising:
- a generally cylindrical body defining a longitudinal body axis and having a bore channel, a first body end with a lead edge and a second body end with a rear edge, the second body end being mountable to the casing, and a body surface extending from the lead edge to the rear edge;
a steering flap disposed on the steering head and having a distal end, a hinge end, a first flap face and an opposing second flap face, the first flap face facing radially inwardly toward the body surface and the second flap face facing radially outwardly away from the longitudinal body axis; and
a biased hinge secured to both the steering head and the hinge end of the steering flap such that the steering flap is thereby mounted to the steering head,wherein the biased hinge is operative to retract the steering flap into the retracted position from the extending position.

A biased hinge is secured to both the outer tube and the steering flap, the biased hinge being operative to retract the steering flap into a retracted position from an extending position.

15. A steering head for use with an auger machine having a casing with a first end connected to the auger machine, the steering head comprising:

a generally cylindrical bore channel extending along a longitudinal center axis of the steering head from a front end to a rear end of the steering head; an outer tube extending from the front end to the rear end of the steering head, the outer tube being concentric with the bore channel; and a steering flap having a rear end, a front end, a first flap face and an opposing second flap face, the first flap face facing radially inwardly and the second flap face facing radially outwardly, the steering flap being pivotable between an extended position and a retracted position; and a first light fixture disposed on the rear end of the steering head, wherein the steering head is mounted to a second end of the casing and the first light fixture is disposed on the steering head so that it is visible from the first end of the casing when the casing and the steering head are concentric about the longitudinal center axis of the steering head. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
