1. A medical instrument, comprising:
- a proximal handle;
a sheath extending from the handle and including a lumen, the sheath including a distal end away from the handle;
a retrieval assembly that is movable relative to the sheath to achieve a collapsed position of the retrieval assembly within the lumen and an expanded position of the retrieval assembly outside the lumen, the retrieval assembly including a proximal portion comprising three or more strands having a first rigidity and a distal portion comprising at least one wire having a second rigidity, wherein the three or more strands meet at a proximal-most end of the retrieval assembly, wherein the at least one wire is a single continuous wire that extends from a distal end of one of the strands to a distal end of another one of the strands, and wherein the distal portion of the retrieval assembly forms a pocket and includes an apex positioned at a distal end of the retrieval assembly; and
an elongate member having at least a portion formed of extensions of the three or more strands that are braided together, the elongate member extending proximally from the proximal-most end of the retrieval assembly.

a proximal handle; a sheath extending from the handle and including a lumen, the sheath including a distal end away from the handle; a retrieval assembly that is movable relative to the sheath to achieve a collapsed position of the retrieval assembly within the lumen and an expanded position of the retrieval assembly outside the lumen, the retrieval assembly including a proximal portion comprising a plurality of strands, and a distal portion comprising a plurality of filaments, each of the plurality of strands being discrete from each of the plurality of filaments, and a distal end of at least one of the strands being connected to a proximal end of at least one of the filaments by a joint, the joint including at least one of a crimp, a hole, a loop, a hook, a solder, a weld, a knot, and an adhesive; wherein the at least one filament is a single continuous wire that extends from the distal end of one of the strands to the distal end of another one of the strands, wherein the distal portion of the retrieval assembly forms a pocket and includes an apex positioned at a distal end of the retrieval assembly; and an elongate member having at least a portion formed of extensions of the plurality of strands that are braided together. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17)

a proximal handle; a sheath extending from the handle and including a lumen, the sheath including a distal end away from the handle; a retrieval assembly that is movable relative to the sheath to achieve a collapsed position of the retrieval assembly within the lumen and an expanded position of the retrieval assembly outside the lumen, the retrieval assembly comprising a proximal portion having a plurality of legs that meet at a proximal-most end of the retrieval assembly and a distal portion comprising a plurality of wires, wherein the plurality of wires include a first wire that is a single continuous wire that extends from a distal end of a first leg of the plurality of legs to a distal end of a second leg of the plurality of legs and continues back from the distal end of the second leg to the distal end of the first leg, wherein joints connect the first wire to the distal ends of the first leg and the second leg, and wherein the distal portion of the retrieval assembly forms a pocket and includes an apex positioned at a distal end of the retrieval assembly; and an elongate member having at least a portion formed of extensions of the plurality of legs that are braided together, the elongate member extending proximally from the proximal-most end of the retrieval assembly. - View Dependent Claims (26, 27, 28, 29, 30)

a proximal handle; a sheath extending from the handle and including a lumen, the sheath including a distal end away from the handle; and a retrieval assembly that is movable relative to the sheath to achieve a collapsed position of the retrieval assembly within the lumen and an expanded position of the retrieval assembly outside the lumen, the retrieval assembly comprising; a proximal portion including a plurality of strands, wherein the plurality of strands meet at a proximal-most end of the retrieval assembly and are braided together to form an elongate section that extends proximally from the proximal-most end; and a distal portion including at least two single continuous wires that are discrete from the plurality of strands, wherein each of the at least two single continuous wires extends from a distal end of one of the strands to a distal end of another one of the strands, and neither of the at least two single continuous wires pass through a loop formed by the other of the at least two single continuous wires. - View Dependent Claims (37, 38)
