1. A point-of-sale (POS) receipt management system, comprising:
- an Internet-connected computerized POS appliance executing first software (SW) from a non transitory physical medium;
a third-party server connected to the Internet;
a portable communication device in possession of a consumer executing second SW; and
a peripheral device coupled to the computerized POS appliance, the peripheral device having a display device enabled to communicate with the POS appliance;
wherein, upon the consumer completing a transaction at the POS, the first software prepares transaction data including a unique transaction identification, and simultaneously sends the transaction data to the third-party server via the Internet and inserts at least a portion of the transaction data into an image-based code, which is transmitted to the peripheral device and displayed, and the portable communication device scans the displayed image-based code with an integrated camera and the second software decodes the image-based code thereby delivering a partial amount of the transaction data along with the unique identification required for retrieval of all of the transaction data from the third-party server.
