Abstract

A processor-implemented method, system, and/or computer program product creates a portal application. Multiple rules for portlets and views of a portal application are received. Common business user interface components are classified into user interface component categories, which include a container category for twisties and tabs. A portal application is created based on the user interface component categories, such that views of the portlets within the portal application have a similar look and feel.

Claims

1. A processor-implemented method of creating a portal application, the processor-implemented method comprising:

a processor receiving multiple rules for portlets and views of a portal application;

the processor generating common business user interface components that comply with the multiple rules, wherein the multiple rules define how the common business user interface components are permitted to be broken apart into multiple sub-components, wherein the common business user interface components consists of a container category, a form category, and a button category, wherein the container category contains a twisty and a tab, wherein the form category contains a data input form, a data display form, a data display table, and a double header data display table, and wherein the button category contains top buttons and bottom buttons;

the processor classifying the common business user interface components into user interface component categories;

the processor creating a library of implemented and classified common business user interface components, wherein the library stores the implemented common business user interface components according to the user interface component categories; and

providing the library to multiple developers to design the views of the portlets, wherein the views will have a similar look and feel within the portal application.

2. The processor-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the library contains executable code that generates, when executed, the common business user interface components.

3. The processor-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the multiple rules for portlets and views of the portal application are specific for a particular type of business activity.

4. The processor-implemented method of claim 1, wherein calling a software program that executes steps in the processor-implemented method results in a reconfiguration of a VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL) chip, wherein a resulting reconfigured VHDL chip is a hardware chip that performs steps of the processor-implemented method without executing any software.

5. A computer program product for creating a portal application, the computer program product comprising:

a non-transitory computer readable storage media;

first program instructions to receive multiple rules for portlets and views of a portal application;

second program instructions to generate common business user interface components that comply with the multiple rules, wherein the multiple rules define how the common business user interface components are permitted to be broken apart into multiple sub-components, wherein the common business user interface components consists of a container category, a form category, and a button category, wherein the container category contains a twisty and a tab, wherein the form category contains a data input form, a data display form, a data display table, and a double header data display table, and wherein the button category contains top buttons and bottom buttons;

third program instructions to classify the common business user interface components into user interface component categories;

fourth program instructions to create a library of implemented and classified common business user interface components, wherein the library stores the implemented common business user interface components according to the user interface component categories;

fifth program instructions to provide the library to multiple developers to design the views of the portlets, wherein the views will have a similar look and feel within the portal application; and

wherein

the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth program instructions are stored on the non-transitory computer readable storage media.

6. The computer program product of claim 5, wherein the library contains executable code that generates, when executed, the common business user interface components.

7. The computer program product of claim 5, wherein the multiple rules for portlets and views of the portal application are specific for a particular type of business activity.

8. A computer system comprising:

a processor, a computer readable memory, and a computer readable storage media;

first program instructions to receive multiple rules for portlets and views of a portal application;

second program instructions to generate common business user interface components that comply with the multiple rules, wherein the multiple rules define how the common business user interface components are permitted to be broken apart into multiple sub-components, wherein the common business user interface components consists of a container category, a form category, and a button category, wherein the container category contains a twisty and a tab, wherein the form category contains a data input form, a data display form, a data display table, and a double header data display table, and wherein the button category contains top buttons and bottom buttons;

third program instructions to classify the common business user interface components into user interface component categories;

fourth program instructions to create a library of implemented and classified common business user interface components, wherein the library stores the implemented common business user interface components according to the user interface component categories;

fifth program instructions to provide the library to multiple developers to design the views of the portlets, wherein the views will have a similar look and feel within the portal application; and

wherein

the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth program instructions are stored on the non-transitory computer readable storage media for execution by the processor via the computer readable memory.

9. The computer system of claim 8, wherein the library contains executable code that generates, when executed, the common business user interface components.

10. The computer system of claim 8, wherein the multiple rules for portlets and views of the portal application are specific for a particular type of business activity.
