1. A method for detecting presence in a communications system environment, comprising:

  • subscribing to receive an indication related to events associated with a communication system, the events being tagged by a recorder that is configured as a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) endpoint using an SIP control protocol;

    receiving a notification for an event, the event being associated with a communication between a first communications device and a second communications device and the notification being facilitated by an extraction of tagging data associated with presence data from a communication; and

    receiving a request at a recorder controller, the request being to record at least a portion of the communication, and in response to receiving the request;

    determining current recording resources at a plurality of recorders;

    determining at least one recorder to record at least a portion of the communication based on the determined current resources;

    sending a response from the recorder controller indicating the at least one recorder; and

    invoking the recording at the determined at least one recorder, the recording beginning from a location specified in the response and including at least the tagging data to identify the at least a portion of the communication.
