1. A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising:
- (a) causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to determine a multiplier from a plurality of different multipliers, said determination being based in part on a quantity of plays of a wagering game by a player during a period of time prior to a triggering event, wherein the multiplier is greater if the quantity of plays of the wagering game by the player during the period of time is greater;
(b) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to determine an award to provide to the player after the triggering event, wherein the award is based on the determined multiplier; and
(c) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to operate with a display device to display the determined award.

Abstract
In accordance with the present invention, a gaming device such as a slot machine calculates a speed of game play, and in turn determines a pay schedule based on the speed of game play. In some embodiments, a count is adjusted throughout a multiple play session based on point values associated with symbols on the reels of a slot machine, and payouts are awarded in accordance with (i) a finishing count, and/or (ii) a “virtual average speed”.

5. A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising:
-
(a) causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to determine a multiplier from a plurality of different multipliers, said determination being based in part on a quantity of plays of a wagering game by a player during a period of time prior to a triggering event, wherein (i) the multiplier is a first multiplier if the quantity of plays of the wagering game by the player during the period of time is a first quantity, (ii) the multiplier is a second multiplier if the quantity of plays of the wagering game by the player during the period of time is a second quantity, (iii) the second multiplier is greater than the first multiplier, and (iv) the second quantity is greater than the first quantity; (b) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to determine an award to provide to the player after the triggering event, wherein the award is based on the determined multiplier; and (c) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to operate with a display device to display the determined award. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8)

9. A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising:
-
(a) causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to determine a multiplier, said determination being based, at least in part, on a speed of game play during a period of time prior to a triggering event, wherein if a first wager amount is placed per game play during the period of time; (i) a first multiplier is determined for a first speed of game play during the period of time, and (ii) a second, different multiplier is determined for a second, different speed of game play during the period of time; (b) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to determine an award to provide to the player after the triggering event, wherein the award is based, at least in part, on the determined multiplier; and (c) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to operate with a display device to display the determined award. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13, 14)

-
(a) causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to determine a multiplier, said determination being based, at least in part, on a speed of game play during a period of time prior to a triggering event, wherein for equal wager amounts placed per game during the period of time; (i) a first multiplier is determined for a first speed of game play during the period of time, and (ii) a second, different multiplier is determined for a second, different speed of game play during the period of time; (b) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to determine an award to provide to the player after the triggering event, wherein the award is based, at least in part, on the determined multiplier; and (c) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to operate with a display device to display the determined award. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
