1. A method of making a flexible analyte sensor, the method comprising:

  • providing a base layer;

    forming a first electrode layer on the base layer, wherein the first electrode layer includes a first electrode;

    forming a first insulative layer on the first electrode layer, said first insulative layer having opposed first and second longitudinal ends;

    forming a first aperture in the first insulative layer to expose at least a portion of the first electrode, said first aperture being disposed longitudinally between, and away from, said first and second longitudinal ends of the first insulative layer;

    forming a second electrode layer on the first insulative layer, wherein the second electrode layer includes a second electrode;

    forming a second insulative layer on the second electrode layer, said second insulative layer having opposed first and second longitudinal ends; and

    forming a second aperture in the second insulative layer to expose at least a portion of the second electrode, said second aperture being disposed longitudinally between, and away from, said first and second longitudinal ends of the second insulative layer,wherein the first and second electrodes are in a staggered configuration.
