- transcutaneously positioning a portion of a sensor at a first predetermined location under a skin layer; and
coupling a data processing unit to a mounting unit such that the portion of the sensor is displaced from the first predetermined location to a second predetermined location under the skin layer when the data processing unit is coupled to the mounting unit;
wherein the first predetermined location has a first width and the second predetermined location has a second width, wherein the first width is greater than the second width.
