1. A fluid delivery system comprising:

  • a syringe having a discharge outlet;

    a source of flushing fluid;

    a pressure isolation mechanism in fluid communication with the discharge outlet of the syringe and the source of flushing fluid, the pressure isolation mechanism comprising;

    a lumen having an inlet and an outlet, the inlet being in fluid connection with the discharge outlet of the syringe and the outlet being adapted for fluid connection with a catheter;

    an isolation port in fluid communication with the source of flushing fluid; and

    a valve operably disposed between the inlet of the lumen and the isolation port, the valve having a first state wherein the discharge outlet of the syringe, the lumen inlet, the lumen outlet, the isolation port and the source of flushing fluid are in fluid communication and a second state wherein the lumen and the isolation port are not in fluid communication and the discharge outlet of the syringe, the lumen inlet and the lumen outlet are in fluid communication, wherein the lumen inlet and the lumen outlet are open for flow of fluid therethrough in the first state and in the second state, wherein the valve is normally in the first state and is switchable to the second state when fluid pressure in the lumen reaches a predetermined pressure level; and

    a pressure transducer connected to the isolation port and in fluid communication with the lumen inlet and the lumen outlet only when the valve is in the first state.
