Abstract

An implant delivery system may comprise a catheter including at least one lumen, a guide wire configured to be received in the lumen, and an implant. The guide wire may comprise a clamping mechanism disposed about a distal end of the guide wire. The clamping mechanism may include a first and at least a second jaw wherein at least one of the jaws is configured to pivot between a closed position wherein the jaws define at least one internal cavity between the jaws configured to receive at least a portion of the implant and an open position configured to release the implant. The implant may be configured to be received in the lumen and may comprise a driver configured to be releasably received in the cavity of the clamping mechanism.

Claims

1. An implant delivery system comprising:

a catheter including at least one lumen;

a guide wire configured to be received in said lumen, said guide wire comprising a clamping mechanism disposed about a distal end, said clamping mechanism comprising a first jaw and a second jaw, said first and second jaws each comprising a proximal end and a distal end; and

an implant configured to be received in said lumen, said implant comprising;

a shaft having a first end region and a second end region,

a spacer disposed proximate to said second end region and configured to interact with at least a portion of at least one cusp of a heart valve to at least partially restrict a flow of blood through said heart valve in a closed position,

at least one anchor coupled to said first end region of said shaft, said anchor configured to secure said implant to native coronary tissue, and

a driver coupled to said second end region of said shaft generally opposite said first end region, wherein said driver is configured to be releasably received in said clamping mechanism of said guide wire;

wherein a distal end of at least one of said first and second jaws comprises a first chamfered region that engages said driver to cam open said clamping mechanism.

The implant delivery system of claim 1, wherein at least one of said first and second jaws is configured to pivot between a closed position wherein said first and second jaws define at least one internal cavity between said first and second jaws configured to receive said driver and an open position configured to release said driver.

The implant delivery system of claim 2, wherein said clamping mechanism comprises at least one aperture disposed through at least one of said first and second jaws, said aperture configured to receive at least a part of said shaft of said implant when said clamping mechanism is in said closed position.

4. The implant delivery system of claim 3, wherein said lumen comprises an internal diameter configured to prevent said clamping mechanism from releasing said driver when said clamping mechanism is received within said lumen.

5. The implant delivery system of claim 3, wherein said clamping mechanism comprises at least one biasing device configured to urge said jaws from said closed position to said open position.

The implant delivery system of claim 2, wherein said clamping mechanism comprises a first upright shoulder region and said driver comprises a second upright shoulder region, said first upright shoulder region engaging said second upright shoulder region when said clamping mechanism is in said closed position.

7. The implant delivery system of claim 6, wherein said driver comprises at least one second chamfered region configured to engage said at least one first chamfered region of said clamping mechanism and cam open said clamping mechanism.

8. The implant delivery system of claim 1, wherein said driver comprises at least one set screw extending through an aperture of said driver configured to fixedly couple said driver to said second end region of.

9. The implant delivery mechanism of claim 1, wherein said first jaw is fixedly coupled to said guide wire and said second jaw is pivotally coupled to said guide wire about a pivot point.

10. The implant delivery mechanism of claim 1, wherein said first jaw is fixedly coupled to said guide wire and said second jaw is pivotally coupled to said guide wire about a pivot point.

11. An implant delivery system comprising:

a catheter including at least one lumen; and

a guide wire configured to be received in said lumen, said guide wire comprising a clamping mechanism disposed about a distal end of said guide wire, said clamping mechanism comprising a first jaw and at least a second jaw, said first and second jaws each comprising a proximal end and a distal end, wherein;

at least one of said first and second jaws is configured to pivot between a closed position wherein said first and second jaws define at least one internal cavity between said first and second jaws configured to receive at least a portion of said implant and an open position configured to release said implant; and

an implant configured to be received in said lumen, said implant comprising;

a shaft having a first end region and a second end region,

a spacer disposed proximate to said second end region and configured to interact with at least a portion of at least one cusp of a heart valve to at least partially restrict a flow of blood through said heart valve in a closed position,

at least one anchor coupled to said first end region of said shaft, said anchor configured to secure said implant to native coronary tissue, and

a driver coupled to said second end region of said shaft generally opposite said first end region, wherein said driver is configured to be releasably received in said clamping mechanism of said guide wire, and wherein a distal end of at least one of said first and second jaws comprises a first chamfered region that engages said driver to cam open said clamping mechanism.

12. The implant delivery system of claim 11, wherein at least one of an upper and lower end region of said driver includes at least one second chamfered region to engage said at least on first chamfered region and cam open said clamping mechanism.

The implant delivery system of claim 11, wherein said clamping mechanism comprises a first upright shoulder region and said driver comprises a second upright shoulder region, said first upright shoulder region engaging said second upright shoulder region when said clamping mechanism is in said closed position.

14. The implant delivery system of claim 11, wherein said driver comprises at least one set screw extending through an aperture of said driver configured to fixedly couple said driver to said second end region of said shaft.

15. The implant delivery system of claim 11, wherein said first jaw is fixedly coupled to said guide wire and said second jaw is pivotally coupled to said guide wire about a pivot point.

16. The implant delivery system of claim 11, wherein at least a portion of said at least one anchor comprises a generally helical screw configured to at least partially screw into native coronary tissue of said heart.

17. The implant delivery system of claim 11, wherein said clamping mechanism comprises at least one aperture disposed through at least one of said first and second jaws configured to receive at least a part of a shaft of said implant when said clamping mechanism is in said closed position.

18. The implant delivery system of claim 11, wherein said lumen comprises an internal diameter configured to prevent said clamping mechanism from releasing said implant when said clamping mechanism is received within said lumen.
