- an implantable microstimulator comprisinga single body having a distal end surface, a proximal end surface, and at least one side surface disposed in between the distal and proximal end surfaces,electrical circuitry disposed within the single body and configured and arranged to generate electrical stimulation current,a coil disposed within the single body and coupled to the electrical circuitry and configured and arranged to communicate with, or receive power from, an external device, anda programmable memory unit disposed within the single body and coupled to the electrical circuitry; and
a connector assembly configured to be coupled to the microstimulator and extend parallel to the at least one side surface of the microstimulator;
wherein the connector assembly is further configured to removably receive a portion of a lead and to electrically couple one or more electrodes disposed on the lead to the microstimulator.

The connector assembly is further configured to facilitate removable coupling of a lead having one or more electrodes disposed thereon to the stimulator.
