System and method for filter creation and use for building automation systems

1. A system for filtering items to be displayed on a graphical user interface provided to a client and for interaction by a user, the graphical user interface for a building automation system, the system comprising:
- a processor;
memory communicably coupled to the processor and including;
computer code for allowing the user to create a filter definition for filtering building automation system device data points via a computer based form;
computer code for allowing the user to associate the filter definition with a building space of the building automation system;
computer code for saving the created filter definition to memory;
computer code for allowing, after the created filter and association are saved, the user to select the building space from a plurality of building spaces via a user interface element of the graphical user interface;
computer code for automatically applying the saved filter definition associated with the building space to a set of building automation system data items in response to the selection; and
computer code for generating the graphical user interface, the graphical user interface including results of the applied filter definition, wherein the results of the applied filter definition reflect a subset of building automation system device data points associated with the building space selected.
