Abstract

Apparatuses, methods, and computer program products for communication are provided. In an aspect, an apparatus for communication may include a processing system configured to receive a frame configured to assign at least member information or position information for one or more identifiers, and receive a data packet associated with a particular identifier and indicating a number of space-time streams for one or more position information. In another aspect, an apparatus for communication may include a processing system configured to transmit a frame configured to assign at least member information or position information for one or more identifiers, and transmit a data packet associated with a particular identifier and indicating a number of space-time streams for one or more position information.

Claims

1. An apparatus for communication, the apparatus comprising:

a memory; and

at least one processor associated with the memory and configured to;

receive a frame configured to assign first position information for an identifier;

receive a data packet associated with two or more identifiers, the data packet indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the first position information and destined to the apparatus;

determine which of the space-time streams in the data packet are destined to the apparatus by considering a number of space-time streams associated with second position information, the second position information comprising a value different from a value of the first position information; and

process a first data portion of two or more data portions in a space-time stream when at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated corresponds to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the frame is individually-addressed to the apparatus.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

refrain from processing all space-time streams in the data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated does not correspond to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

determine whether the apparatus is a destination of one or more space-time streams in the data packet based on whether at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated corresponds to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein a first space-time stream of one or more space-time streams destined to a first destination begins concurrently with a second space-time stream of one or more space-time streams destined to a second destination.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the data packet is a multi-user data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers has one of a first subset of possible values, and wherein the data packet is a single-user data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers has one of a second subset of possible values.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the data packet further comprises a reference symbol and a subsequent symbol, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

differentiate the data packet as a very high throughput (VHT) data packet rather than a non-VHT data packet when the subsequent symbol has a 90°

counter-clockwise rotation relative to the reference symbol.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

determine whether a number of data portions destined to one or more destinations is greater than a number of space-time streams available in a single data packet.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the data packet comprises:

timing information indicating at least an end of a data portion destined to a first destination or a beginning of a data portion destined to a second destination.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated comprises a first identifier and a second identifier, and wherein the data packet includes at least one space-time stream comprising:

a data portion destined to a first destination and associated with the first identifier; and

a data portion destined to a second destination and associated with the second identifier.

11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the frame is received at a first time that is different from a second time at which a second frame addressed to another apparatus is received.

12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein position information is assigned for each identifier to which the apparatus is a member.

13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the data packet includes an abbreviated indication of the apparatus when the data packet is a single-user data packet.

14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first position information is assigned by the frame according to a quality of service (QoS) of data destined to the apparatus.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein a data portion having a QoS higher than a QoS of another data portion has at least a lower contention window, a shorter inter-frame spacing, or a higher transmission opportunity limit relative to the another data portion.

16. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the assigning the first position information comprises replacing values stored in the apparatus with values in the frame.

17. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the data packet comprises:

a first portion indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the first position information; and

a second portion indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the second position information.

18. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein position information assigned to a first apparatus is the same as position information assigned to a second apparatus.

19. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the data packet comprises:

a stack bit indicating that two or more data portions are included in at least one space-time stream of the data packet.

20. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

transmit an acknowledgement (ACK) in response to receiving the frame, wherein the data packet is received after the ACK is transmitted.

21. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

refrain from processing one or more space-time streams in the data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated does not correspond to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

22. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

determine a number of space-time streams in the data packet destined to the apparatus based on the first position information assigned by the frame.

23. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising computer-executable code configured for:

receiving a frame configured to assign first position information for an identifier;

receiving a data packet associated with two or more identifiers, the data packet indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the first position information and destined to a destination;

determining which of the space-time streams in the data packet are destined to the destination by considering a number of space-time streams associated with second position information, the second position information comprising a value different from a value of the first position information; and

processing a first data portion of two or more data portions in a space-time stream when at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated corresponds to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

24. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the frame is received at a first time that is different from a second time at which a second frame addressed to another destination is received.

25. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein position information is assigned for each identifier to which the destination is a member.

26. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the data packet includes an abbreviated indication of the destination when the data packet is a single-user data packet.

27. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the data packet further comprises a reference symbol and a subsequent symbol, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable code configured for:

differentiating the data packet as a very high throughput (VHT) data packet rather than a non-VHT data packet when the subsequent symbol has a 90°

counter-clockwise rotation relative to the reference symbol.

28. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable code configured for:

determining whether a number of data portions destined to two or more destinations is greater than a number of space-time streams available in a single data packet.

29. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the first position information is assigned by the frame according to a quality of service (QoS) of data destined to the destination.

30. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 29, wherein a data portion having a QoS higher than a QoS of another data portion has at least a lower contention window, a shorter inter-frame spacing, or a higher transmission opportunity limit relative to the another data portion.

31. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the frame is individually-addressed to the destination.

32. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable code configured for:

determining whether an apparatus is a destination of one or more space-time streams in the data packet based on whether at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated corresponds to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

33. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein a first space-time stream of one or more space-time streams destined to a first destination begins concurrently with a second space-time stream of one or more space-time streams destined to a second destination.

34. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the data packet is a multi-user data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers has one of a first subset of possible values, and wherein the data packet is a single-user data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers has one of a second subset of possible values.

35. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the data packet further comprises a reference symbol and a subsequent symbol, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

differentiate the data packet as a very high throughput (VHT) data packet rather than a non-VHT data packet when the subsequent symbol has a 90°

counter-clockwise rotation relative to the reference symbol.

36. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable code configured for:

determining whether a number of data portions destined to one or more destinations is greater than a number of space-time streams available in a single data packet.

37. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the data packet comprises:

timing information indicating at least an end of a data portion destined to a first destination or a beginning of a data portion destined to a second destination.

38. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated comprises a first identifier and a second identifier, and wherein the data packet includes at least one space-time stream comprising:

a data portion destined to a first destination and associated with the first identifier; and

a data portion destined to a second destination and associated with the second identifier.

39. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the assigning the first position information comprises replacing values stored in an apparatus with values in the frame.

40. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the data packet comprises:

a first portion indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the first position information; and

a second portion indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the second position information.

41. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein position information assigned to a first destination is the same as position information assigned to a second destination.

42. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the data packet comprises:

a stack bit indicating that two or more data portions are included in at least one space-time stream of the data packet.

43. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable code configured for:

transmitting an acknowledgement (ACK) in response to receiving the frame, wherein the data packet is received after the ACK is transmitted.

44. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable code configured for:

refraining from processing one or more space-time streams in the data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated does not correspond to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

45. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 23, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable code configured for:

determining a number of space-time streams in the data packet destined to an apparatus based on the first position information assigned by the frame.

46. An apparatus for communication, the apparatus comprising:

means for receiving a frame configured to assign first position information for an identifier;

means for receiving a data packet associated with two or more identifiers, the data packet indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the first position information and destined to the apparatus;

means for determining which of the space-time streams in the data packet are destined to the apparatus by considering a number of space-time streams associated with second position information, the second position information comprising a value different from a value of the first position information; and

means for processing a first data portion of two or more data portions in a space-time stream when at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated corresponds to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

47. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the assigning the first position information comprises replacing values stored in the apparatus with values in the frame.

48. The apparatus of claim 46, further comprising:

means for determining whether the apparatus is a destination of one or more space-time streams in the data packet based on whether at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated corresponds to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

49. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the data packet comprises:

a first portion indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the first position information; and

a second portion indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the second position information.

50. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein position information assigned to a first destination is the same as position information assigned to a second destination.

51. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the data packet comprises:

a stack bit indicating that two or more data portions are included in at least one space-time stream of the data packet.

52. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the frame is individually-addressed to the apparatus.

53. The apparatus of claim 46, further comprising:

means for refraining from processing all space-time streams in the data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated does not correspond to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

54. The apparatus of claim 46, further comprising:

means for determining whether the apparatus is a destination of one or more space-time streams in the data packet based on whether at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated corresponds to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

55. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein a first space-time stream of one or more space-time streams destined to a first destination begins concurrently with a second space-time stream of one or more space-time streams destined to a second destination.

56. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the data packet is a multi-user data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers has one of a first subset of possible values, and wherein the data packet is a single-user data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers has one of a second subset of possible values.

57. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the data packet further comprises a reference symbol and a subsequent symbol, wherein the apparatus further comprises:

means for differentiating the data packet as a very high throughput (VHT) data packet rather than a non-VHT data packet when the subsequent symbol has a 90°

counter-clockwise rotation relative to the reference symbol.

58. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the apparatus further comprises:

means for determining whether a number of data portions destined to one or more destinations is greater than a number of space-time streams available in a single data packet.

59. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the data packet comprises:

timing information indicating at least an end of a data portion destined to a first destination or a beginning of a data portion destined to a second destination.

60. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated comprises a first identifier and a second identifier, and wherein the data packet includes at least one space-time stream comprising:

a data portion destined to a first destination and associated with the first identifier; and

a data portion destined to a second destination and associated with the second identifier.

61. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the frame is received at a first time that is different from a second time at which a second frame addressed to another apparatus is received.

62. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein position information is assigned for each identifier to which the apparatus is a member.

63. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the data packet includes an abbreviated indication of the apparatus when the data packet is a single-user data packet.

64. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the first position information is assigned by the frame according to a quality of service (QoS) of data destined to the apparatus.

65. The apparatus of claim 64, wherein a data portion having a QoS higher than a QoS of another data portion has at least a lower contention window, a shorter inter-frame spacing, or a higher transmission opportunity limit relative to the another data portion.

66. The apparatus of claim 46, further comprising:

means for transmitting an acknowledgement (ACK) in response to receiving the frame, wherein the data packet is received after the ACK is transmitted.

67. The apparatus of claim 46, further comprising:

means for determining a number of space-time streams in the data packet destined to the apparatus based on the first position information assigned by the frame.

68. A method of communication by an apparatus, the method comprising:

receiving a frame configured to assign first position information for an identifier;

receiving a data packet associated with two or more identifiers, the data packet indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the first position information and destined to the apparatus;

determining which of the space-time streams in the data packet are destined to the apparatus by considering a number of space-time streams associated with second position information, the second position information comprising a value different from a value of the first position information; and

processing a first data portion of two or more data portions in a space-time stream when at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated corresponds to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

69. The method of claim 68, further comprising:

transmitting an acknowledgement (ACK) in response to receiving the frame, wherein the data packet is received after the ACK is transmitted.

70. The method of claim 68, further comprising:

refraining from processing one or more space-time streams in the data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated does not correspond to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

71. The method of claim 68, further comprising:

determining a number of space-time streams in the data packet destined to the apparatus based on the first position information assigned by the frame.

72. The method of claim 68, wherein the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated comprises a first identifier and a second identifier, wherein the data packet includes at least one space-time stream comprising:

a data portion destined to a first destination and associated with the first identifier; and

a data portion destined to a second destination and associated with the second identifier.

73. The method of claim 68, wherein the frame is individually-addressed to the apparatus.

74. The method of claim 68, further comprising:

determining whether the apparatus is a destination of one or more space-time streams in the data packet based on whether at least one of the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated corresponds to the identifier for which the first position information was assigned by the frame.

75. The method of claim 68, wherein a first space-time stream of one or more space-time streams destined to a first destination begins concurrently with a second space-time stream of one or more space-time streams destined to a second destination.

76. The method of claim 68, wherein the data packet is a multi-user data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers has one of a first subset of possible values, and wherein the data packet is a single-user data packet when at least one of the two or more identifiers has one of a second subset of possible values.

77. The method of claim 68, wherein the data packet further comprises a reference symbol and a subsequent symbol, the method further comprising:

differentiating the data packet as a very high throughput (VHT) data packet rather than a non-VHT data packet when the subsequent symbol has a 90°

counter-clockwise rotation relative to the reference symbol.

78. The method of claim 68, further comprising:

determining whether a number of data portions destined to one or more destinations is greater than a number of space-time streams available in a single data packet.

79. The method of claim 68, wherein the data packet comprises:

timing information indicating at least an end of a data portion destined to a first destination or a beginning of a data portion destined to a second destination.

80. The method of claim 68, wherein the two or more identifiers with which the data packet is associated comprises a first identifier and a second identifier, and wherein the data packet includes at least one space-time stream comprising:

a data portion destined to a first destination and associated with the first identifier; and

a data portion destined to a second destination and associated with the second identifier.

81. The method of claim 68, wherein the frame is received at a first time that is different from a second time at which a second frame addressed to another apparatus is received.

82. The method of claim 68, wherein position information is assigned for each identifier to which the apparatus is a member.

83. The method of claim 68, wherein the data packet includes an abbreviated indication of the apparatus when the data packet is a single-user data packet.

84. The method of claim 68, wherein the first position information is assigned by the frame according to a quality of service (QoS) of data destined to the apparatus.

85. The method of claim 84, wherein a data portion having a QoS higher than a QoS of another data portion has at least a lower contention window, a shorter inter-frame spacing, or a higher transmission opportunity limit relative to the another data portion.

86. The method of claim 68, wherein the assigning the first position information comprises replacing values stored in the apparatus with values in the frame.

87. The method of claim 68, wherein the data packet comprises:

a first portion indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the first position information; and

a second portion indicating a number of space-time streams associated with the second position information.

88. The method of claim 68, wherein position information assigned to a first destination is the same as position information assigned to a second destination.

89. The method of claim 68, wherein the data packet comprises:

a stack bit indicating that two or more data portions are included in at least one space-time stream of the data packet.
