1. A method of displaying map information comprising:
- receiving, by one or more processors, a map of a location;
displaying, by the one or more processors, the map from a substantially top-down point of view;
receiving, by the one or more processors, a street level image based on the location, wherein the street level image displays a perspective-view image captured by a camera;
displaying, by the one or more processors, a transition between the map and the street level image, the transition comprisingdisplaying an iterative tilting of the displayed map image from the substantially top-down point of view to a street level point of view, anddisplaying the tilted map image and street level image blended together by increasing the opacity of the street level image and decreasing the opacity of the tilted map image over time, the street level image being displayed at a selected orientation that relates to the orientation of the map and is determined by the one or more processors; and
after displaying the transition, displaying the street level image.

Abstract
A system and method is provided for displaying a transition between a map and a street level image. In one aspect, the display on a mobile device transitions from a top-down view of a map to a street-level view of an image, such as a panoramic image, such that the mobile device uses the currently stored map image to perform a tilt and zoom transition.

9. A method of displaying map information comprising:
-
receiving, using a device comprising a display, a map of a location from a server, displaying, on the device using one or more processors, the map from a substantially top-down point of view, receiving at the device a request for a street level image based on the location wherein the street level image displays a perspective-view image captured by a camera, in response to receiving the request for a street level image, receiving at the device a street level image, prior to displaying the street level image, using the one or more processors to modify the displayed map image to display a transition between the map and the street-level image, the transition including an iterative tilting of the displayed map image from the top-down point of view to a street level point of view and increasing the opacity of the street level image and decreasing the opacity of the tilted map image over time, and after displaying the tilted map, displaying the street level image.
