Abstract

A headlamp 1 includes a laser diode 3 that emits a laser beam, a light emitting part 7 that emits light upon receiving the laser beam emitted from the laser diode 3, and a reflection mirror 8 that reflects the light emitted from the light emitting part 7. According to the headlamp 1, the light emitting part 7 has a luminance greater than 25 cd/mm², and an area size of an aperture plane 8a perpendicular to a direction in which an incoherent light travels outward from the headlamp 1 is less than 2000 mm².

Claims

1. A vehicle headlamp, comprising:

an excitation light source that emits excitation light;

a light emitting part comprising a first surface receiving the excitation light and a second surface that is opposite from the first surface and emits light but does not receive the excitation light;

an optical element that directs the excitation light emitted from the excitation light source to the light emitting part;

a light projection section that projects the light emitted from the light emitting part, a holding part holding the light emitting part, wherein the light emitting part has a side surface that connects the first surface and the second surface, and the light emitting part is held by the holding part at the side surface of the light emitting part, the holding part not being in contact with the optical element; and

a housing for the light emitting part and the light projection section, the holding part being attached to the housing, the light emitting part having a luminance greater than 75 cd/mm², the light receiving surface of the light emitting part receiving the excitation light not being in contact with the optical element, and the light projection section including (i) a reflection mirror for causing the light emitted from the light emitting part to converge and (ii) a convex lens for projecting the light thus converged.

2. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 1, further comprising a tubular lens holder that connects the reflection minor and the convex lens.

3. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 1, wherein the light emitting part has a shape that corresponds to a light distribution pattern of a vehicle headlamp for passing.

4. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 1, wherein the optical element comprises an optical fiber.

5. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 1, wherein an area size of the convex lens, when viewed from front, is not less than 300 mm² but less than 2000 mm².

6. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 1, wherein an area size of the convex lens, when viewed from front, is not less than 500 mm² but less than 1500 mm².

7. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 4, wherein:

the excitation light is a laser beam; and

the laser beam is guided to a vicinity of the light emitting part through the optical fiber.

8. A vehicle headlamp, comprising:

an excitation light source that emits excitation light;

a light emitting part that emits light upon receiving the excitation light emitted from the excitation light source at a flat light receiving surface;

an optical element that directs the excitation light emitted from the excitation light source to the light emitting part and that is apart from the light emitting part;

a light projection section that projects the light emitted from the light emitting part;

a holding part holding the light emitting part, wherein the light emitting part has a side surface that connects the flat light receiving surface and another surface opposite from the flat light receiving surface, and the light emitting part is held by the holding part at the side surface of the light emitting part, the holding part not being in contact with the optical element; and

a housing for the light emitting part and the light projection section, the holding part being attached to the housing, the light emitting part having a luminance greater than 75 cd/mm², and the light projection section including (i) a reflection mirror for causing the light emitted from the light emitting part to converge and (ii) a convex lens for projecting the light thus converged.

9. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 8, further comprising a tubular lens holder that connects the reflection mirror and the convex lens.

10. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 8, wherein the light emitting part has a shape that corresponds to a light distribution pattern of a vehicle headlamp of passing.

11. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 8, wherein the optical element comprises an optical fiber.

12. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 8, wherein:

the excitation light is a laser beam; and

the laser beam is guided to a vicinity of the light emitting part through the optical element.

13. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 8, wherein an area size of the convex lens, when viewed from front, is not less than 300 mm² but less than 2000 mm².

14. The vehicle headlamp according to claim 8, wherein an area size of the convex lens, when viewed from front, is not less than 500 mm² but less than 1500 mm².
