1. A vehicle headlamp, comprising:

  • an excitation light source that emits excitation light;

    a light emitting part comprising a first surface receiving the excitation light and a second surface that is opposite from the first surface and emits light but does not receive the excitation light;

    an optical element that directs the excitation light emitted from the excitation light source to the light emitting part;

    a light projection section that projects the light emitted from the light emitting part, a holding part holding the light emitting part, wherein the light emitting part has a side surface that connects the first surface and the second surface, and the light emitting part is held by the holding part at the side surface of the light emitting part, the holding part not being in contact with the optical element; and

    a housing for the light emitting part and the light projection section, the holding part being attached to the housing, the light emitting part having a luminance greater than 75 cd/mm2, the light receiving surface of the light emitting part receiving the excitation light not being in contact with the optical element, and the light projection section including (i) a reflection mirror for causing the light emitted from the light emitting part to converge and (ii) a convex lens for projecting the light thus converged.
