1. A method of accessing the left common carotid artery, comprising the steps of:
- advancing a catheter through the brachiocephalic artery and into the aorta;
articulating a first section of the catheter in a first direction away from the left common carotid by retracting a pull wire;
articulating a second section of the catheter in a second direction toward the left common carotid by retracting the pull wire and continuing to articulate the second section after the first section stops deflecting by continuing to retract the pull wire; and
advancing a distal portion of the catheter into the left common carotid.
