1. A composition comprising:

  • a) a first component consisting of a substantially purified population of cultured amnion-derived cells, wherein the substantially purified population of cultured amnion-derived cells are made by a method comprising the steps ofi) obtaining a placenta and isolating an amnion from the placenta,ii) enzymatically releasing amnion-derived epithelial cells from the amnion,iii) collecting the released amnion-derived epithelial cells, andiv) culturing the collected amnion-derived epithelial cells of step (iii) in basal culture medium that is supplemented with human serum albumin and, optionally, further supplemented with recombinant human protein factors capable of stimulating proliferation of the cultured amnion-derived epithelial cells; and

    b) a second component consisting of a matrix selected from the group consisting of a polyglycolic acid, a polyanhydride, a polyorthoester, and a polylactic acid.
