1. A method for splitting a communications session over a network, the method comprising:
- designating a first unidirectional communications link as one of a wireless link or a wireline link to communicate a first data packet from a first network device to a second network device, the first data packet being associated with the communications session;
based on a determination that the first unidirectional communications link is designated as a wireless link, designating a second unidirectional communications link as a wireline link to communicate a second data packet from the second network device to the first network device, the second data packet being associated with the communications session; and
based on a determination that the first unidirectional communications link is designated as a wireline link, designating the second unidirectional communications link as a wireless link to communicate the second data packet from the second network device to the first network device,wherein the first data packet does not traverse the second communications link and the second data packet does not traverse the first communications link, and wherein the first communications link is of a different type of communication link than that of the second communications link.
