1. A device for sealing a passage through tissue, comprising:

  • a generally annular body comprising a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending between the proximal and distal ends, the lumen comprising a reduced cross-sectional region, wherein the annular body has an outer profile that tapers to the distal end; and

    a generally annular sealing member slidably disposed within the lumen of the body, the sealing member comprising a lumen extending between proximal and distal ends thereof, and a plurality of shoulders disposed about the lumen of the sealing member, the shoulders being deflectable towards one another when the sealing member is moved at least partially into the reduced cross-sectional region, thereby at least partially sealing the lumen of the sealing member,said sealing member being more flexible than said body and said sealing member having a distal end with a continuous outer perimeter and a diameter greater than a minimum diameter of the lumen of said body.
