Abstract

A system, method, and wireless communication device for sharing media in a group communication among a plurality of wireless communications devices, such as among a Push-to-Talk (PTT) group. A wireless communication device that is a member of the communication group can send group-directed media, such as graphics, multimedia and applications, to other members of the communication group, either during a ongoing PTT communication, or independently there from. In one embodiment, a communication computer device stores information on communication groups on the wireless communication network that includes the member wireless communication devices of one or more communication groups, and receives group-directed media from a sending wireless communication device sends the group-directed media either directly to the other member wireless communication devices of the communication group or stores the group-directed media such that the other member devices can access and download the group-directed media.

Claims

1. A wireless communication device, comprising:

a mobile station modem configured to communicate via a wireless communication network; and

a processor coupled to the mobile station modem and configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations comprising;

communicating as a member of a communication group of wireless communication devices that communicate with each other in direct group communications across the wireless communication network;

selectively sending group-directed media to a group communication computer device across the wireless communication network with instructions to send the group-directed media to other members of the communication group; and

receiving in the wireless communication device an acknowledgment that the group-directed media was received by at least one member wireless device of the communication group.

2. The wireless communication device of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations further comprising receiving group-directed media from at least one wireless communication device across the wireless communication network.

3. The wireless communication device of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations such that the sent group-directed media is graphic media.

4. The wireless communication device of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations such that the sent group-directed media is streaming media.

5. The wireless communication device of claim 4, wherein the processor is configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations such that the sent group-directed media is an interactive session on another computer device on the wireless communication network.

The wireless communication device of claim 4, wherein the processor is configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations such that sending group-directed media to the group communication computer device across the wireless communication network with instructions to send the group-directed media to other members of the communication group comprises sending a hyperlink to the group communication computer device across the wireless communication network with instructions to send the hyperlink to the other members of the communication group, the hyperlink providing a link to the group-directed media stored at a data store.

7. The wireless communication device of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations further comprising sending communication group identification data to the group communication computer device along with the group-directed media.

The wireless communication device of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations further comprising requesting member data for a communication group from the group communication computer device prior to sending the group-directed media.

The wireless communication device of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations such that selectively sending group-directed media to the group communication computer device is accomplished when the wireless communication device is engaged in a group communication with other wireless communication devices of the communication group.

10. A method for sharing media from a wireless communication device in a group communication among a plurality of wireless communications devices that communicate with each other in direct group communications across a wireless communication network, the method comprising:

sending group-directed media from the wireless communication device to a group communication computer device with instructions to send the group-directed media to other members of the communication group; and

receiving in the wireless communication device an acknowledgment that the group-directed media was received by at least one member wireless device of the communication group.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein sending group-directed media comprises sending graphic media.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein sending group-directed media comprises sending streaming media.

13. The method of claim 10, wherein sending group-directed media comprises sending a link to an interactive session on another computer device on the wireless communication network.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein sending group-directed media from the wireless communication device to the group communication computer device with instructions to send the group-directed media to other members of the communication group comprises sending a hyperlink to the group communication computer device with instructions to send the hyperlink to the other members of the communication group.

15. The method of claim 10, further comprising receiving group-directed media at the wireless communication device from another wireless communication device across the wireless communication network.

16. The method of claim 10, further comprising sending communication group identification data from the wireless communication device to the group communication computer device prior to sending the group-directed media.

17. The method of claim 10, further comprising requesting member data for a communication group from the group communication computer device prior to sending the group-directed media.

18. The method of claim 10, further comprising receiving a preview of group-directed media that is requested to be sent to the wireless communication device from another computer device across the wireless communication network.

19. A wireless communication device, comprising:

means for sending group-directed media to a group communication computer device via a wireless communication network with instructions to send the group-directed media to other members of a communication group; and

means for receiving in the wireless communication device an acknowledgment that the group-directed media was received by at least one member wireless device of the communication group.

20. The wireless communication device of claim 19, wherein means for sending group-directed media comprises means for sending graphic media.

21. The wireless communication device of claim 19, wherein means for sending group-directed media comprises means for sending streaming media.

22. The wireless communication device of claim 19, wherein means for sending group-directed media comprises means for sending a link to an interactive session on another computer device on the wireless communication network.

23. The wireless communication device of claim 22, wherein means for sending group-directed media from the wireless communication device to the group communication computer device with instructions to send the group-directed media to other members of the communication group comprises means for sending a hyperlink to the group communication computer device with instructions to send the hyperlink to the other members of the communication group.

24. The wireless communication device of claim 19, further comprising means for receiving group-directed media at the wireless communication device from another wireless communication device across the wireless communication network.

25. The wireless communication device of claim 19, further comprising means for sending communication group identification data from the wireless communication device to the group communication computer device prior to sending the group-directed media.

26. The wireless communication device of claim 19, further comprising means for requesting member data for a communication group from the group communication computer device prior to sending the group-directed media.

27. The wireless communication device of claim 19, further comprising means for receiving a preview of group-directed media that is requested to be sent to the wireless communication device from another computer device across the wireless communication network.

28. A non-transitory processor-readable storage medium having stored thereon processor-executable instructions configured to cause a processor of a wireless communication device to perform operations, comprising:

sending group-directed media to a group communication computer device via a wireless communication network with instructions to send the group-directed media to other members of a communication group; and

receiving in the wireless communication device an acknowledgment that the group-directed media was received by at least one member wireless device of the communication group.

29. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 28, wherein the stored processor-executable instructions are configured to cause the wireless communication device to perform operations such that sending group-directed media comprises sending graphic media.

30. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 28, wherein the stored processor-executable instructions are configured to cause the wireless communication device to perform operations such that sending group-directed media comprises sending streaming media.

31. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 28, wherein the stored processor-executable instructions are configured to cause the wireless communication device to perform operations such that sending group-directed media comprises sending a link to an interactive session on another computer device on the wireless communication network.

32. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 31, wherein the stored processor-executable instructions are configured to cause the wireless communication device to perform operations such that sending group-directed media from the wireless communication device to a group communication computer device with instructions to send the group-directed media to other members of the communication group comprises sending a hyperlink to the group communication computer device with instructions to send the hyperlink to the other members of the communication group.

The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 28, wherein the stored processor-executable instructions are configured to cause the wireless communication device to perform operations further comprising receiving group-directed media at the wireless communication device from another wireless communication device across the wireless communication network.

The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 28, wherein the stored processor-executable instructions are configured to cause the wireless communication device to perform operations further comprising sending communication group identification data from the wireless communication device to the group communication computer device prior to sending the group-directed media.

35. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 28, wherein the stored processor-executable instructions are configured to cause the wireless communication device to perform operations further comprising requesting member data for a communication group from the group communication computer device prior to sending the group-directed media.

36. The non-transitory processor-readable medium of claim 28, wherein the stored processor-executable instructions are configured to cause the wireless communication device to perform operations further comprising receiving a preview of group-directed media that is requested to be sent to the wireless communication device from another computer device across the wireless communication network.
