1. A method of determining an azimuthal orientation of a well tool relative to a line in a well, the method comprising:

  • connecting at least one acoustic source to the well tool, the acoustic source having a known azimuthal orientation relative to the well tool;

    detecting at least one acoustic signal transmitted from the acoustic source to an acoustic sensor, the sensor having a known azimuthal orientation relative to the line, wherein an azimuthal orientation of the acoustic source relative to the sensor is unknown prior to the detecting; and

    analyzing the at least one acoustic signal detected by the sensor, thereby determining the azimuthal orientation of the acoustic source relative to the sensor, and thereby permitting the azimuthal orientation of the well tool relative to the line to be determined.
