1. A method for annotating a digital map, comprising:
- associating an object with a location within a digital map;
assessing a popularity of the object, wherein assessing the popularity of the object is based at least in part on determining a number of users who have clicked on the object in the digital map;
selecting a zoom range over which the object is to be presented within the digital map based on the assessed popularity;
determining an object zoom level based on the selected zoom range;
associating the object zoom level with the object in relation to the digital map;
receiving an instruction to present the map at a requested zoom level;
determining whether to present the object within the digital map depending on whether the requested zoom level lies within a range specified by the object zoom level; and
presenting the map based on an outcome of the determining.

Abstract
A strategy is described for annotating a digital map. According to one exemplary aspect, the user can link a single uploaded object to multiple locations within a map (or maps) without requiring separate uploading and storing operations. According to another exemplary aspect, the user can specify a range of zoom levels in which an object is made visible on the map. According to another exemplary aspect, the user can instruct map processing functionality (MPF) to automatically extract objects from a data source (such as an RSS data source) and annotate the map with the objects.
