First Claim
1. A medical puncturing device, comprising:
- a housing having a proximal end and a distal end;
a shield having a proximal end and a distal end, the shield proximal end disposed within the housing and comprising a retaining element rotatable outward towards the housing upon engagement of the retaining element with a portion of the housing, and the shield movable relative to the housing, the retaining element including a first flexure member and a second flexure member; and
a skin puncturing assembly disposed within the housing and comprising a movable carrier and a skin puncturing element mounted to the carrier, a distal end of the skin puncturing element adapted for puncturing the skin of a patient, the carrier movable from a retracted position wherein the distal end of the skin puncturing element is disposed within the shield to a puncturing position wherein the distal end is exposed from the shield to puncture the skin of the patient, the carrier maintained in the retracted position by engagement of the retaining element with the carrier and moved from the retracted position to the puncturing position upon a portion of the retaining element rotating outward thereby releasing the engagement between the retaining element and the carrier,wherein the first flexure member and the second flexure member are disposed on opposite sides of the skin puncturing element.

Abstract
A lancet device including a housing and a lancet structure having a puncturing element. The lancet structure disposed within the housing and adapted for movement between a retaining or pre-actuated position wherein the puncturing element is retained within the housing, and a puncturing position wherein the puncturing element extends through a forward end of the housing. The lancet device includes a drive spring disposed within the housing for biasing the lancet structure toward the puncturing position, and a retaining hub retaining the lancet structure in the retracted position against the bias of the drive spring. The retaining hub includes a pivotal lever in interference engagement with the lancet structure. An actuator within the housing pivots the lever, thereby moving the lancet structure toward the rearward end of the housing to at least partially compress the drive spring, and releasing the lever from interference engagement with the lancet structure.

11. A lancet device comprising:
-
a housing; a lancet structure comprising a puncturing element, the lancet structure disposed within the housing and adapted for movement between a pre-actuated position wherein the puncturing element is retained within the housing and a puncturing position wherein the puncturing element extends through a front opening of the housing; a drive spring disposed between a rearward end of the housing and the lancet structure for biasing the lancet structure toward the puncturing position; and a retaining hub retaining the lancet structure in the pre-actuated position and adapted to retain the lancet structure against the bias of the drive spring, the retaining hub comprising a pivotal cam element pivotal about a shaft, the cam element providing interference engagement with the lancet structure, the retaining hub comprising an annular rim, the annular rim comprising a pair of opposed support members connected by a pair of pivotal cam elements, wherein axial movement of the housing toward the retaining hub causes the cam element to pivot, thereby moving the lancet structure toward the rearward end of the housing to at least partially compress the drive spring and release the cam element from interference engagement with the lancet structure, permitting the drive spring to drive the lancet structure through the housing toward the puncturing position. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17)
