1. An analyte sensor for measuring an analyte in a host, the sensor comprising:

  • an elongated body comprising a first wire and a second wire, wherein the first wire comprises a first working electrode comprising a first electroactive surface and the second wire comprises a second working electrode comprising a second electroactive surface, wherein the first wire is substantially parallel to the second wire, wherein the first and second wires are spaced apart from a single longitudinal axis by an insulator and are embedded within the insulator, wherein the insulator comprises a first window that exposes the first electroactive surface area of the first electrode, wherein the insulator comprises a second window that exposes the second electroactive surface area of the second electrode, wherein the first electroactive surface area is disposed beneath an active enzymatic portion of a membrane, wherein the second electroactive surface area is disposed beneath an inactive-enzymatic or non-enzymatic portion of a membrane, wherein the first electroactive surface area and the second electroactive surface area are offset along an axis parallel to the first and second wires.
