Micro-saw blade for bone-cutting surgical saws
First Claim
1. A surgical cutting blade for cutting bone material when the blade is coupled to a hand-held surgical saw having protrusions extending therefrom that interface with the cutting blade, the cutting blade comprising:
- a blade formed of a first material including;
a distal end comprising a plurality of cutting teeth,a shank portion extending from the distal end, anda proximal end connected to the shank portion; and
an overmold of a second material different than that of the first material;
wherein the proximal end is shaped to attach to the surgical saw and includes an upper substantially planar surface and a lower substantially planar surface and a side edge extending between the upper and lower planar surfaces;
wherein the side edge at least in part defines an arcuate outer perimeter extending about the proximal end, wherein the proximal end is bulbous;
wherein the outer perimeter includes a plurality of indentations extending into the proximal end and forming openings configured to receive and interface with the protrusions of the surgical saw,wherein the overmold substantially conforms to at least the proximal end of the blade including the plurality of indentations.

Abstract
A surgical cutting blade for cutting bone material when the blade is coupled to a hand-held surgical saw having protrusions extending therefrom that interface with the cutting blade. The cutting blade includes a distal end comprising a plurality of cutting teeth and a shank portion adjacent the distal end. It also includes a proximal end adjacent the shank portion. The proximal end is shaped to attach to the surgical saw and includes an upper substantially planar surface and a lower substantially planar surface and a side edge extending between the upper and lower planar surfaces. The side edge at least in part defines an outer perimeter extending about the proximal end. The outer perimeter includes a plurality of indentations forming openings configured to receive and interface with the protrusions of the surgical saw in a manner that the protrusions cooperatively impart motion to drive the blade.

12. A surgical cutting blade for cutting bone material when the blade is coupled to a hand-held surgical saw having protrusions extending therefrom that interface with the cutting blade, comprising:
a plurality of cutting blades, each cutting blade having; a distal end comprising a plurality of cutting teeth; a shank portion adjacent the distal end; a proximal end adjacent the shank portion, the proximal end being shaped to attach to the surgical saw and including an upper substantially planar surface and a lower substantially planar surface, the proximal end also including a perimeter edge and a longitudinally disposed slot formed therein, the slot defining an inner edge, the proximal end also including a plurality of openings configured to receive and interface with the protrusions of the surgical saw in a manner that the protrusions cooperatively impart motion to drive the blade, the openings being disposed closer to the perimeter edge than the inner edge; and an overmold of a first material having a hardness less than that of a second material of at least the proximal end, wherein the overmold extends around at least the upper substantially planar surface, the lower substantially planar surface, and the perimeter edge of at least the proximal end and having the longitudinally disposed slot formed therein; wherein at least a first cutting blade differs from a second cutting blade identified by a respective first overmold on the first cutting blade and a second overmold on the second cutting blade. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 22)

18. A surgical cutting blade for cutting bone material when the surgical cutting blade is coupled to a hand-held surgical saw having protrusions extending therefrom that interface with the surgical cutting blade, the surgical cutting blade comprising:
-
a plurality of blade portions formed of a first material including; a distal end comprising a plurality of cutting teeth; a shank portion adjacent the distal end; and a proximal end adjacent the shank portion, the proximal end being shaped to attach to the surgical saw and including an upper substantially planar surface and a lower substantially planar surface and a side edge extending between the upper and lower planar surfaces, the side edge at least in part defining an outer perimeter extending about the proximal end, the outer perimeter including a plurality of openings configured to receive and interface with the protrusions of the surgical saw in a manner that the protrusions cooperatively impart motion to drive the surgical cutting blade; wherein at least a first blade portion has a first thickness of at least one of the distal end, the shank portion, or the proximal end and a second blade portion has a second thickness of at least one of the distal end, the shank portion, or the proximal end; and an overmold formed around the proximal end and of a second material and configured to provide a uniform thickness of the proximal end of the first blade portion and the proximal end of the second blade portion to interface with the protrusions. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20, 21)
