1. A brake monitoring system for an air brake arrangement comprising at least one reservoir configured to deliver air to at least one air-operable braking assembly for braking at least one wheel of a vehicle, the brake monitoring system comprising:
- at least one sensor configured to measure air pressure in at least one component of the air brake arrangement;
at least one local controller configured to determine air brake data comprising at least one of the following;
air pressure in the at least one component of the air brake arrangement, air pressure over time in the at least one component of the air brake arrangement, air leakage in the air brake arrangement, air leakage rate in the air brake arrangement, air leakage in the at least one component of the air brake arrangement, air leakage rate in the at least one component of the air brake arrangement, brake holding prediction data, air level data, or any combination thereof; and
at least one communication device configured to directly or indirectly transmit or communicate at least a portion of the air brake data to at least one of the following;
a remote controller, a central controller, a vehicle controller, an on-board controller of a locomotive, a central dispatch system, or any combination thereof,wherein the air brake data comprises the brake holding prediction data.
