1. A mobile device, comprising:

  • a touchscreen display;

    one or more processors; and

    a computer-readable storage medium coupled to the one or more processors having instructions stored thereon which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising;

    displaying a first tab graphic in a first tab bar control and a second tab graphic in a second tab bar control, the second tab bar control separate and distinct from the first tab bar control, the first tab bar control being displayed at a first default position on a first edge of the touchscreen display and the second tab bar control being displayed at a second default position on a second, opposite edge of the touchscreen display;

    detecting a user selection in one of a first region and a second region of the touchscreen display, the one of the first region and the second region defining a selected region, the first region being associated with the first tab graphic and the second region being associated with the second tab graphic;

    in response to selection of the selected region, removing a tab bar control and a tab graphic associated with the selected region from display at an associated default position on an associated edge of the touchscreen display such that a first target is displayed at the associated default position;

    detecting user motion corresponding to the user selection;

    in response to the user motion, animating the tab bar control associated with the selected region to extend from one of the first edge and the second edge of the touchscreen display to the first target;

    determining a measure of the user motion;

    comparing the measure of the user motion to a threshold measure; and

    in response to the measure of the user motion being equal to or greater than the threshold measure, changing an unlocked mode of the mobile device if the selected region is the first region, and changing a mode of a ringer of the mobile device if the selected region is the second region.
