1. A method for defining at least one policy used for management in a computing system, comprising:

  • receiving, by the computing system, a specified result to be produced by at least one managed entity;

    receiving, by the computing system, a prospective policy and a list of parameters of the prospective policy that may be adjusted;

    accessing, by the computing system, stored information in a repository regarding at least one managed entity in the computing system, wherein the information indicates resource usage by the managed entity;

    applying, by the computing system, the prospective policy to the information regarding the at least one managed entity;

    determining, by the computing system, if applying the prospective policy to the information regarding the at least one managed entity produces the specified result;

    outputting, by the computing system, the prospective policy in response to determining that the applying the prospective policy produces the specified result;

    in response to determining that the applying the prospective policy does not produce the specified result, performing, by the computing system;

    varying, within a first range, a first parameter in the list of parameters to create a first modified prospective policy;

    applying the first modified prospective policy to the information regarding the at least one managed entity; and

    determining if applying the first modified prospective policy to the information regarding the at least one managed entity produces the specified result, and if so, outputting the first modified prospective policy.
