1. A method of providing a three-dimensional (3D) image in a receiving system, the method comprising:

  • receiving a request for a 3D image viewing;

    searching source devices that can provide 3D images in response to receiving the request for the 3D image viewing, each source device being coupled to the receiving system through a high definition multimedia interface (HDMI),wherein searching source devices includes;

    receiving a Vendor Specific InfoFrame packet content from the specific source device; and

    determining whether the specific source device can provide a 3D image based on a value of an HDMI Video Format field in the Vendor Specific InfoFrame packet content;

    displaying information of a plurality of source devices when there are the plurality of source devices that can provide 3D images;

    switching an input mode to a source device, which is selected by a user based on the displayed information, from among the plurality of source devices;

    identifying a transport format of a 3D image of the selected source device based on a value of a 3D Structure field in the Vendor Specific InfoFrame packet content received from the selected source device;

    receiving the 3D image from the selected source device;

    decoding the received 3D image in accordance with the identified transport format; and

    displaying the decoded 3D image at the receiving system.
