1. A memory storage device having stored therein code that is executable to compensate for acoustic distortion in an amplifier, the code executable by a processor, the memory storage device comprising:
- code that is executable to process an audio signal in an audio amplifier;
code that is executable to determine an actual voltage of a rail of an audio amplifier power supply;
code that is executable to compare the actual voltage of the rail of the audio amplifier to a reference;
code that is executable to adjust a compressor knee of a compressor lower in response to the actual voltage being less than the reference, the compressor being included in the audio amplifier and the audio signal provided as an input to the compressor; and
code executable to adjust the compressor knee of the compressor higher in response to the actual voltage being greater than the reference.

Abstract
A distortion compensation system minimizes distortion in an audio system by monitoring a supply voltage and adjusting a clipping threshold and/or compression knee. An adjustable gain circuit controls the gain of the audio signal according whether the audio signal exceeds a variable threshold. The variable threshold is adjusted within a threshold range based on the supply voltage. Distortion due to clipping of the audio signal is minimized while available power at any given time is maximized.
