1. An electrical jack assembly comprising:
- a receptacle block defining a socket configured to receive a plug connector;
a first contact set coupled to the receptacle block, the first contact set extending into the socket from a first end of the receptacle block;
a media reading interface disposed at the receptacle block, the media reading interface extending into the socket from a second end of the receptacle block, the second end being different from the first end, the media reading interface including a second contact set having distal ends aligned in a row and a sensing contact located at a position offset from the row, the second contact set being electrically isolated from the first contact set, the sensing contact extending parallel to contact members of the second contact set.

Abstract
A receptacle block defines one or more sockets at which plugs may be received. Each socket contains a first set of contacts and a second set of contacts. Each socket also includes a sensing contact that interacts with the second set of contacts to close an electrical switch. For example, the sensing contact can interact with an arm extending from one of the contacts of the second set. Closure of the switch can be detected and interpreted to indicate that a plug has been received at the respective socket.
