Devices for restoring blood flow and clot removal during acute ischemic stroke
First Claim
1. A catheter-based blood-flow restoration system configured to restore blood flow in an occluded blood vessel of a subject'"'"'s neurovasculature, comprising:
- a microcatheter having a lumen,a blood flow restoration device configured to be disposed within the lumen of the microcatheter, wherein the blood flow restoration device comprises a self-expandable capturing member coupled to a distal end of an elongate delivery member, the elongate delivery member comprising a tubular member, a coil, and a shrink tube, the tubular member joined to the coil at a joint, the shrink tube surrounding the joint and extending proximally and distally of the joint, wherein the self-expandable capturing member is configured to be delivered through the microcatheter in a compressed configuration and deployed to an expanded configuration upon retraction of the microcatheter at a location of a clot, wherein the capturing member comprises a generally cylindrical body having an open-cell structure that is configured to compress the clot against an inner wall of the neurovasculature upon deployment of the capturing member from the microcatheter, thereby restoring blood flow through the neurovasculature downstream of the clot, wherein the generally cylindrical body comprises a mouth at a side of the body, the mouth being configured to accept passage of the clot to within the capturing device, the mouth being larger than any cell of the open-cell structure, and an entire perimeter of the mouth being positioned at a radially outermost periphery of the body, wherein a proximal end of the generally cylindrical body is closed and tapered in the expanded configuration; and
wherein a distal end of the generally cylindrical body is closed in the expanded configuration.

Abstract
Devices for restoring blood flow to facilitate lysis of clots and/or enable capture of clots are disclosed. The devices can be configured to be disposed within a lumen of a microcatheter that is inserted within neurovasculature above a carotid siphon to a location of a clot. The devices can include an elongate pusher member and a self-expandable capturing member coupled to a distal end of the elongate pusher member. The capturing member can comprise a generally cylindrical body having an cell structure that is configured to compress the clot against an inner wall of the neurovasculature and capture the clot at least partially on a surface of the generally cylindrical body upon deployment of the capturing member from the microcatheter, thereby restoring blood flow to the neurovasculature downstream of the clot.
