A method for lightening the color of uneven skin pigmentation, skin mottling, or age spots due to exposure to UV radiation comprising applying to the areas of skin exposed to UV radiation, at least once per day a topical composition comprising (a) at least one extract from Trametes versicolor in an amount sufficient to inhibit tyrosinase, and (b) at least one viscosity enhancing synthetic polymer for a period of time sufficient to cause the uneven skin pigmentation, skin mottling, or age spots to become lighter in color.
