1. An apparatus for processing a biological sample comprising:

  • at least one station configured to receive at least one sample carrier; and

    at least one instrument comprising;

    a stainer that dispenses a reagent with a robotic arm;

    a radio frequency transmitter configured to transmit a radio frequency signal to a radio frequency device associated with a sample carrier, the sample carrier having at least one biological sample arranged thereon;

    a radio frequency receiver configured to receive data stored on the radio frequency device via a return signal from the radio frequency device; and

    a computer communication interface comprising a non-transitory memory programmed with instructions that cause the computer communication interface toconvey the data to a central database in a computer; and

    receive control instructions from the computer to carry out at least one processing step on the biological sample,wherein the computer is configured to determine the at least one processing step to be carried out on the biological sample based on the data.
