1. An apparatus for controlling current to solid state lighting, the apparatus comprising:

  • a memory configured to store a plurality of parameters including a predetermined minimum current level parameter and a predetermined peak current level parameter;

    an inductor coupled to the solid state lighting;

    a controller coupled to the memory, wherein the controller is configured to;

    control a power source to supply current to the inductor to start an energizing cycle;

    monitor a current level of the inductor;

    reduce the inductor current level in response to the inductor current level reaching the predetermined peak current level parameter; and

    increase the inductor current level in response to the inductor current level reaching the predetermined minimum current level parameter to start a next energizing cycle.
