Automatic engagement of image stabilization
First Claim
1. An image stabilized digital image capture device, comprising:
- an image sensor for capturing a digital image;
an optical system for imaging a scene onto the image sensor;
an image stabilization system;
an exposure control system;
a memory system; and
a processor for performing the steps of;
determining exposure settings using the exposure control system;
capturing a time sequence of preview images using the image sensor;
detecting motion in the imaged scene by analyzing differences between the captured preview images;
selectively engaging, prior to capturing a digital image, the image stabilization system responsive to the detected motion and responsive to whether the determined exposure settings satisfy a predefined condition;
capturing a digital image of a scene using the image sensor and the selectively engaged image stabilization system; and

Abstract
An image stabilized digital image capture device, comprising an image sensor for capturing a digital image; an optical system for imaging a scene onto the image sensor; an image stabilization system; an exposure control system; a memory system; and a processor. The processor is used to perform the steps of determining exposure settings using the exposure control system; selectively engaging the image stabilization system responsive to whether the determined exposure settings satisfy a predefined condition; capturing a digital image of a scene using the image sensor and the selectively engaged image stabilization system; and storing the captured digital image in the memory system.

14. A non-transitory program storage device, readable by a programmable control device comprising instructions stored thereon for causing the programmable control device to:
-
obtain exposure settings from an exposure control system of a digital image capture device; obtain a time sequence of preview images captured using an image sensor of the digital image capture device; detect motion in the time sequence of preview images by analyzing differences between the captured preview images; selectively engage, prior to capture of a digital image, an image stabilization system of the digital image capture device responsive to the detected motion and responsive to whether the obtained exposure settings satisfy a predefined condition; cause the digital image capture device to capture a digital image of a scene using the selectively engaged image stabilization system; and store the captured digital image in a memory. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
