1. A method for wireless communication, comprising:

  • receiving a set of long code masks at a mobile station, wherein each long code mask in the set of long code masks includes a multiple bit feedback multiplexing index correlating one forward link channel on one forward link frequency with one reverse link frequency;

    receiving a channel assignment message at the mobile station, the channel assignment message assigning a first reverse link frequency to the mobile station and specifying relationships between a plurality of forward link frequencies and at least one reverse link frequency;

    assigning a first long code mask to a first frequency of a forward link channel according to a first multiple bit feedback multiplexing index and assigning a second long code mask to a second frequency of the forward link channel according to a second multiple bit feedback multiplexing index;

    multiplexing the first frequency of the forward link channel to the first reverse link frequency using the first long code mask and the second frequency of the forward link channel to the first reverse link frequency using the second long code mask; and

    turning off a second reverse link frequency that the mobile station is configured to employ for sending data.
