1. An apparatus, comprising:

  • a cassette including test media tape configured to collect body fluid and a reagent disposed on the test media tape configured to generate an optical signal indicative of analyte levels in the body fluid;

    a sensor configured to analyze the body fluid collected by the test media tape using an optical technique based on the optical signal from the reagent, the sensor includinga light source/detector located remotely from the test media tape,optical fibers extending from the light source/detector to a test area that is proximal to the test media tape, wherein the optical fibers include a detection optical fiber extending from the light source/detector to the test area, the detection optical fiber being configured to transmit the optical signal generated by a reaction between the body fluid and the reagent on the test media tape to the light source/detector, wherein the optical fibers include a transmission optical fiber extending from the light source/detector to the test area, the transmission optical fiber being configured to transmit light from the light source/detector to the test area,an emitter coupled to the transmission optical fiber, the emitter being configured to emit the light from the transmission optical fiber, anda detector coupled to the detection optical fiber, the detector being configured to receive the light reflected from the test media tape;

    wherein the light source/detector includes a light emitting diode; and

    wherein the light source/detector includes a photodiode.
