1. In a non-mobile telephone system that includes a landline telephone, the non-mobile telephone system including a telephony processing system for performing telephone functions and an applications processing system for executing applications for the non-mobile telephone system, a method of interprocessing system communication comprising:

  • sending a message, by making a selection on a touchscreen display on the landline telephone, from the applications processing system to the telephony processing system in a format that is independent of a telecommunications protocol;

    wherein making the selection on the touchscreen display includes displaying an applications view on the touchscreen display based on the selection made;

    the telephony processing system receiving the message; and

    , responsive to the message, performing instructions in the telecommunications protocol processed by the telephony processing system;

    wherein instructions in the telecommunications protocol processed by the telephony processing system are capable of sending an instant message request, sending a text message, and making a voice call according to the message.
