Abstract

A nebulizer having an insertable container and a monitoring device for counting actuations of the nebulizer is proposed. The monitoring device is mounted in a detachable housing part and directly detects movements of container during a nebulizing process, an air supply current in the region of a mouthpiece, and/or the production of aerosol, in order to detect this as the actual dispensing of fluid and actuation of the nebulizer, while preferably the time of actuation of the nebulizer is additionally detected and stored. This allows better monitoring and guidance for the user.

Claims

1. A hand-holdable nebulizer for fluid, comprising:

a housing having an outer housing part;

a container containing fluid;

a pressure generator for conveying and atomizing the fluid; and

a monitoring device for counting actuations of the nebulizer;

wherein the monitoring device comprises a timer and a memory so that the number and times of the actuations can be detected and stored;

wherein the monitoring device comprises an interface allowing the monitoring device to be at least one of switched on, programmed set, reset and interrogated, and

wherein the monitoring device is connected with the outer housing part in a manner enabling the entire monitoring device to be changed with the outer housing part,

further comprising a receiving sensor for detecting an air current, and wherein the receiving sensor is connected to the monitoring device, the monitoring device being adapted for detecting inhalation from signals of the receiving sensor.

Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 1, further comprising a spray sensor for detecting production of an aerosol and wherein the monitoring device determines the occurrence of an actuation of the nebulizer and actual dispensing of fluid when both inhalation and production of an aerosol are detected.

3. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 1, wherein an air supply opening is associated with the receiving sensor.

4. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 1, wherein the receiving sensor is arranged in a region of a mouthpiece or expulsion nozzle, and wherein the receiving sensor is a flow sensor for directly detecting an air flow.

Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 1, wherein the outer housing part is detachable for inserting and replacing of the container, and wherein the monitoring device is constructed so as to only be switched on when the container is first inserted or the pressure generator is first tensioned or actuated.

9. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 1, further comprising means for interrogating identification or coding on the container.

10. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 1, wherein the monitoring device is operative for detecting absolute times of actuations of the nebulizer and for storing detected absolute times in the memory.

11. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 1, wherein the monitoring device is disconnectable from the nebulizer and wherein the monitoring device is connectable to a base station through the interface only after the monitoring device has been disconnected from the nebulizer.

12. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 1, wherein the timer measures only relative time.

13. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 12, wherein the monitoring device is operative for setting an absolute start of the relative time measurement of the timer and for storing it in the memory.

14. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 13, wherein the setting of the absolute start of the relative time measurement of the timer by the monitoring device is triggered by initiating or first switching on of the monitoring device.

15. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 13, wherein the monitoring device is operative for setting an absolute end of the relative time measurement of the timer.

16. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 15, wherein the input device is operative for enabling the absolute end of the relative time measurement of the timer to be determined by interrogating the monitoring device and by comparison with an absolute time base.

17. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 1, further comprising a base station, the monitoring device being connectable to the base station through the interface.

18. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 17, wherein the monitoring device is adapted to be inserted in a suitable recess of the base station.

6. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim a 1, further comprising an input device.

7. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 6, wherein the input device is manually actuatable.

8. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 7, wherein the input device comprises a key or keyboard.

19. A hand-holdable nebulizer for fluid, comprising:

a container containing fluid;

a pressure generator for pressurizing the fluid; and

a monitoring device for counting inhalations of the nebulizer;

wherein the monitoring device comprises a timer and a memory for detecting and storing the number and times of inhalations,

wherein the monitoring device is mountable onto the nebulizer,

wherein the nebulizer comprises a receiving sensor for detecting an air current, and

wherein the receiving sensor is connected to the monitoring device, the monitoring device being adapted for evaluating signals of the receiving sensor for detecting inhalation.

20. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, further comprising a spray sensor for detecting when nebulization has actually occurred.

21. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, wherein the monitoring device determines the occurrence of an actuation of the nebulizer and actual dispensing of fluid when both inhalation and nebulization are detected.

22. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, wherein an air supply opening is associated with the receiving sensor.

23. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, wherein the receiving sensor is arranged in a region of a mouthpiece or expulsion nozzle, and wherein the receiving sensor is a flow sensor for directly detecting air flow.

24. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, further comprising a detachable outer housing part for inserting and replacing of the container.

25. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 24, wherein the monitoring device is constructed so as to only be switched on when the container is first inserted into the hand-holdable nebulizer or when the pressure generator is first tensioned or actuated.

26. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, further comprising an input device.

27. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 26, wherein the input device is manually actuatable.

28. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 26, wherein the input device comprises a key or keyboard.

29. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, wherein the monitoring device is replaceably mounted for changing or replacing thereof.

30. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, further comprising means for interrogating identification or coding on the container.

31. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, wherein the monitoring device is operative for detecting absolute times of actuations of the nebulizer and for storing detected absolute times in the memory.

32. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, wherein the timer measures only relative time.

33. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, wherein the monitoring device is operative for setting an absolute start of the relative time measurement of the timer and for storing it in the memory.

34. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 33, wherein the setting of the absolute start of the relative time measurement of the timer by the monitoring device is triggered by initiating or first switching on of the monitoring device.

35. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 33, wherein the monitoring device is operative for setting an absolute end of the relative time measurement of the timer.

36. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 35, wherein the input device is operative for enabling the absolute end of the relative time measurement of the timer to be determined by interrogating the monitoring device and by comparison with an absolute time base.

37. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 19, further comprising a base station, the monitoring device being connectable to the base station through the interface.

38. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 37, wherein the monitoring device is adapted to be inserted in a suitable recess of the base station.

39. A hand-holdable nebulizer for fluid, comprising:

a container containing fluid;

a pressure generator for pressurizing the fluid; and

a monitoring device for counting actuations of the nebulizer;

wherein the monitoring device comprises a timer and a memory for detecting and storing number and times of inhalations,

wherein the monitoring device is mountable to the nebulizer,

wherein the nebulizer comprises a spray sensor for detecting when nebulization has actually occurred, and

wherein the monitoring device is adapted to evaluate signals of the spray sensor for detecting actuation of the nebulizer.

40. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 39, wherein the spray sensor is adapted to detect formation of actual droplets or aerosol of nebulized fluid.

41. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 39, wherein the spray sensor is a scattered light sensor.

42. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 39, further comprising a detachable outer housing part for inserting and replacing of the container.

43. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 39, wherein the monitoring device is constructed so as to only be switched on when the container is first inserted or the pressure generator is first tensioned or actuated.

44. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 39, further comprising an input device.

45. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 44, wherein the input device is manually actuatable.

46. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 39, wherein the monitoring device is replaceably mounted for changing or replacing thereof.

47. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 39, further comprising means for interrogating identification or coding on the container.

48. Hand-holdable nebulizer according to claim 39, wherein the monitoring device is operative for detecting absolute times of actuations of the nebulizer and for storing detected absolute times in the memory.
