1. A pedicle screw system comprising:

  • a polyaxial screw having a screw head including a spherical lower portion and an upper portion with a central projection and a plurality of secondary projections; and

    a polyaxial screwdriver including a shaft with a screw engaging end including a cylindrical portion having alternating first surfaces and second surfaces positioned at the periphery of the cylindrical portion, the polyaxial screwdriver further including a sleeve slidable over the shaft, a nut mounted on the shaft, the nut having internal threads, the polyaxial screwdriver further including external threads formed on the sleeve at the end that is close to a handle, the external threads being capable of engaging the internal threads,wherein the first surfaces and the second surfaces of the cylindrical portion of the polyaxial screwdriver are adapted to engage the plurality of secondary projections of the polyaxial screw, and the screw driver further comprises a locking button mounted on the sleeve, the locking button being capable of automatically locking the shaft and thereby preventing the shaft from disengaging from the head of the polyaxial screw.
