A method for capturing carbon dioxide from an air stream, comprising exposing one or more collection surfaces formed of a solid sorbent material to an air stream, wherein the solid sorbent material comprises an ion exchange material and absorbs carbon dioxide from the air stream, and wherein the air stream is laminar, or close to the laminar regime.
