1. A method for training vehicle drivers to detect hazards, the method comprising:

  • providing a display device and a physical user interface;

    using a processor to visually present to a driver via the display device a view of a continuous drive through a driving environment comprised of at least two hazard modules, wherein each hazard module presents at least one driving scenario that comprises different types of hazards, including a plurality of vehicle-type hazards that automatically switch between (a) a stationary state in which an image of a vehicle is stationary but indicates a potential hazard to (b) a moving state in which the image of the vehicle is moving;

    receiving physical interactions between the driver and the physical user interface;

    detecting the physical interactions between the driver and the physical user interface, each physical interaction having an associated location in the view presented to the driver; and

    using a processor to record where within the visual presentation the driver looks to detect hazards during the visual presentation of the continuous drive by detecting physical interactions having an associated location within target boxes in the view presented to the driver, wherein the target boxes coincide with the hazards in the visual presentation, including detecting and scoring a driver response to each vehicle-type hazard by distinguishing between whether, for a particular displayed vehicle, the driver (a) clicks or taps on the image of the vehicle during the stationary state, wherein the driver is awarded a first score, (b) clicks or taps on the image of the vehicle during the moving state, wherein the driver is awarded a second score lower than the first score, or (c) fails to click or tap on the image of the vehicle in either the stationary state or the moving state; and

    using a processor to determine the driver'"'"'s hazard detection proficiency by evaluating whether the driver looked at hazards during the visual presentation of the continuous drive, including analyzing the detected and scored driver response to each of the vehicle-type hazards.
