1. An electronic weapon for impeding the locomotion of a human or animal target by stimulating tissue of the target between launched electrodes, the weapon for cooperating with a provided cartridge, the cartridge comprising at least two wire-tethered electrodes and at least two terminals, the electronic weapon comprising:

  • a bay for receiving the cartridge;

    a first user-operated control that does not initiate a launch of the wire-tethered electrodes from the cartridge;

    a second user-operated control that initiates a launch function to launch the wire-tethered electrodes of the cartridge toward the target; and

    a signal generator that;

    if the cartridge is unused, provides an arcing display between the terminals of the cartridge when the first control is operated, the arcing display for warning the target; and

    if the cartridge is used, provides a stimulus signal via the wire-tethered electrodes of the cartridge when the second control is operated.
